you say you like to BBQ ...
Have we got a deal for you! Yep, that’s
right! The Cold River
Cattle Company Barbeque Team (in conjunction
with
the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest sponsored
by the Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo) is looking for you!
The Cold
River crew has been cooking at the HLS&R
barbeque cook-off for over a quarter of a century. The team is made up of doctors,
lawyers, bankers and even a few Indian chiefs.
The annual cook-off takes place over a three-day period in
February. But at Cold River, we start our party a day before
most other teams. This year, the fun begins on Wednesday,
February 23rd, and keeps on rolling till closing time on
Saturday, February 26th.

This event is part of the kickoff weekend for the rodeo
events, so the mood is great and the food is fantastic! We
cook a full range of food: brisket, sausage, chicken and
whatever else gets close to the fire! And of course ... all
the trimmings. Over the years, Cold River has won the Grand
Champion title for both brisket and chicken. And we always
win the “Best
Place to Be” award.
Cold River provides donors and their guests food and beverages
(alcoholic and non-alcoholic) in a private tent. We have
live music entertainment each night ... plus, a “Miss Blue
Jeans” contest on Saturday. Security is provided, even calls
to Yellow Cab for those who are just too full!
Proceeds benefit kids in the Houston area. Donations are
tax-deductible and allow us to hold two special events that
bring us more enjoyment and energy than all the other stuff
combined. On Friday, from 10 a.m. to noon, we will host children
from the Small Steps Nurturing Center; and our annual party
for the Sunshine Kids organization is Saturday morning.
So come on ... jump on the wagon! We would love to have you
